You who are seeing this are getting a head start look at this weekend bulletin.

In case you have not noticed, we are beginning another ‘year’ of preparing for an election of our president. There is much debate about who should be the right candidate for the position. In the conversations and deliberations, people express their opinions and ideas on what is right and wrong, or what is positive and negative. This will continue up until the day of the elections at the end of the year. At some point in the process we need to decide for whom we are voting. In the meantime we will be charged with the responsibility to pay attention to what the candidates are saying. I have to admit that I am not a good ‘listener of the news’; I need to pay more attention in order to be better informed of what is being proposed by each of those ‘running for office’. I like to think that I am not a one criteria voter; I try to see the person who is a candidate and what they are proposing for our future. Even though we have the good part of a year to prepare, now is a good time to start. St. Paul in his letter to the Corinthians gives us something to think about. We want leaders who can show us the wisdom with which they are leading. The ultimate wisdom comes from God so if we are trying to live the life that uses that wisdom then we are moving in the right direction. To paraphrase what Paul says: If our leaders of today know God’s wisdom, they will not want to ‘crucify’ the lives of the people they serve and of whom they are looking for votes. Then Paul mentions that we cannot imagine what God has prepared for us. I pray that our candidates may know the Spirit in which we who live Christianity are following. May they too feel the need to listen to that Spirit.
