Advanced planning is done through a mortuary. Immediate planning with the Parish consists of choosing readings, music, identifying individuals taking part, and the number of family for a luncheon, if there is one.
There are three parts to the Funeral liturgies: an optional Vigil Service, typically consisting of viewing the body, a visitation with family and reciting a Rosary, often at a Funeral Home; the Funeral Mass held at Church; and the Graveside service held at the Cemetery. Cremation is allowed, but the Catholic Church expects the remains to be buried or interred in a mausoleum. Burial of cremated remains may be delayed to a later date.
